Technical Area

Corstone is manufactured with a variety of polymer films, through a firing process, turning into a safety glass with UV protection.

Technical product that allows a multitude of applications and combinations, such as ceilings, through mechanical fixing, wall cladding, and fixing through special mortar. Both applications have the possibility of backlighting. The standard thickness is 8mm and for special projects it can be produced on demand between 7 to 20mm.

1. Quality assessment:

The technical quality assessment process will be carried out by a trained professional, performing an assessment with the naked eye, at a distance of 1m, using normal (ambient) or diffused light. The use of direct surface light sources is not accepted for evaluation.

2. Dimensional requirements:

For dimensions of 2000 mm or less, the standard tolerance is +/- 1 mm from the nominal dimension.

For dimensions greater than 2000 mm, the standard tolerance is +/- 1.5 mm from the nominal dimension.

The orthogonality dimensional tolerance for ballasts with dimensions of 2000mm or less, the difference must not be greater than 3mm. For ballasts with dimensions greater thab 2000mm, the difference must not exceed 4mm.

3. Installing Corstone

General recommendation: Before starting the laying of Corstone, it is important to perform a technical assessment of the location in which the product will be installed. It is recommended to evaluate if there is any pre-defined pagination and if the measurements of the installation place are in accordance with the project and size of the parts. In case there is any inconsistency, it is recommended to correct it before starting the installation.

3.1 Base preparation

The base preparation and the execution of the joints must comply with the standards of ABNT NBR 7200, NBR 13749, NBR 13753.

The base must be flat or without plumb line deviation, cured and absolutely clean;

Check the leveling of the walls where the product will be applied. Irregularities greater than 2mm in each 2 meters must be corrected before placing the Corstone. Check whether pieces of different thicknesses will be used in the same plane. In affirmative case, check if there is a need to correct the plaster thickness so that the pieces are at the same level. This procedure must be done before the beginning of laying.

Plasters or casts must be cured for at least 14 days and concrete for 28 days;

Clean the surface by removing residues of dust, oils, paints or other materials that could impair adherence;

Cracks, flatness, waterproofing and resistance problems must be corrected before laying the Corstone;

Moisten the base if it has high absorption. Even when installing indoors, it is recommended to moist the base in places where there is sunlight incidence;

Protect aluminum parts and untreated metals, as they can stain when in contact with the mortar.

Weiku does not recommend laying this product on painted walls as it may cause peeling. In this case, it is recommended to remove the paint through mechanical grinding or, preferably, complete removal of the paint. We emphasize that just staking the painted wall does not replace mechanical grinding.

3.2 Sticky mortar preparation

For laying the pieces, the use of WEIKU's Argalastic mortar, supplied and shipped along with the product (sold separately) is recommended. Or also Ceramfix's Argalastic mortar.

Follow the steps below to prepare the mortar:

Prepare the product in an airtight container, clean and protected from the sun and wind;

Pour in the entire amount of water indicated on the package. Then, gradually add the powder, making the homogenization with the aid of an electric mixer or a mixing rod coupled to a drill, both at low rotation speed. Without interrupting such process, gradually add the rest of the powder;

Mix it well, until obtaining a homogeneous mass and with no lumps;

There is no need of waiting time to use the product;

Use the product within a maximum period of 2 hours and do not add water or any other product after mixing;

Protect the product from sun, wind or rain.

This mixing process takes approximately 5 minutes. During the laying process, it is important to re-mix the mortar so that it keeps its pasty consistency.

3.3 Laying

Use steel trowel with 20mm semicircular opening and 10mm radius;

Place the Corstone piece properly supported on a bench with the printed side (front side of the piece) turned down;

With the smooth sie of the trowel, apply a layer of mortar from 3 to 6 mm on the base, in areas of approximately 1m² until filling the entire piece;

Then use the notched side of the trowel at an angle of approximately 60º, forming continuous and uniform cords;

On the substrate where the Corstone piece will be laid, execute the same procedure for applying the adhesive mortar;

It is important that, at the time of laying, the mortar cords made on the back of the piece and on the wall are arranged in the same direction so that you do not have the laying of crossed cords;

Lay each plate on the fresh mortar cords, pressing with vibrating movements.

Note: Due to the weight and dimensions of the parts, the use of shims to assist in the positioning of the parts is recommended;

Lightly tap with a rubber mallet (check the thickness issue) over the entire surface of the piece until the complete crush of mortar beads is reached.

Remove the adhesive mortar excess from the laying joints;

Clean the parts with a clean and damp cloth before the mortar dries;

The application of the product must follow the installation manual.

The product must be handed carefully, following the manual guidelines.

Corstone must be clean, cry, free from moisture, acid and other aggressive products, such as cleaning agents or materials that are not included in the manual.

The mortar and other fixing products must be strictly observed in the installation manual

In case the installation procedures in this manual are not complied, the responsibility shall lie with the installer and/or customer.

We are at your disposal for clarifying any doubts and receiving any suggestions.

4. Cleaning and maintenance

Cleaning must be done regularly, when wall from top to bottom, removing dust and other product that may damage the piece. Cleaning must be done manually. The process is essential to preserve quality, preventing stains on the product.

It is not recommended to spray the product under the product, but on a soft cloth. Do not use abrasive or aggressive products.

5. Corstone product is produced with a strict quality control.
